A fire engulfed a detached garage converted into an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in Pasadena on Wednesday afternoon, displacing two residents.
Fire officials said the blaze occurred on the 200 block of East Mountain Street.
Pasadena Fire Department spokesperson Lisa Derderian reported that the fire was successfully contained to the converted garage, preventing damage to the main house and adjacent structures.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, she added.
Firefighters rescued one dog from the burning structure. The animal was assessed for potential injuries.
The fire department responded swiftly, with the first unit arriving on scene at 2:42 p.m., just over three minutes after being dispatched. Firefighters reported knockdown of the fire at 2:50 p.m..
The Fire Department committed four engines, two trucks, one rescue ambulance, one deputy chief, four battalion chiefs, and two training captains. The Pasadena Police Department and Pasadena Water and Power also provided assistance.
While the two adult residents of the ADU were displaced, they were able to relocate to the main house on the property. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The estimated value of the property saved, according to Zillow estimates cited by the fire department, is $1,700,000. This includes the primary address valued at $1,000,000 and an adjacent structure valued at $700,000.
Fire officials closed the incident at 4:36 p.m, approximately two hours after the initial dispatch.
