The 1969 Blair Championship football team will hold a reunion from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at El Portal Restaurant, 695 E. Green St., on Saturday, Oct. 21.
The 1969 Vikings football team led by the “Blair Pair” James McCallister and Kermit Johnson is regarded by some as the best high school football team in the City’s history.
The dynamic duo combined for almost 4,000 yards that season along with 57 touchdowns, leading the Vikings to a 13-0 record and the school’s only CIF Southern Section championship.
The team’s success was not only powered by the Blair Pair. Other notable players included Eugene Jones and Forrie Martin, who were also highly recruited.
The team beat Bishop Amat for the CIF title. Despite Bishop Amat’s No. 1 ranking in the state. MaxPreps ranked the game as 24th among the greatest 50 high school football games of all time.
As of Monday morning, more than 30 people have committed to attending the event. Tickets have been increased to $40 to accommodate the guests.
Space is limited and there are just a handful of seats remaining.
