State Assemblyman Chris Holden has garnered over $1 million in contributions for his campaign in the upcoming Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors District 5 election, his campaign said in a statement.

Last month, Holden secured the Los Angeles County Democratic Party’s endorsement. The statement said his campaign is actively building a coalition encompassing nurses, home care workers, healthcare professionals, grocery store clerks, and progressive organizations.

Holden expressed gratitude for the contributors who propelled his campaign past the million-dollar mark, emphasizing the community’s motivation for new Democratic leadership.

“I am grateful to every contributor who has chipped in to reach this million-dollar milestone in our campaign,” he said. “It demonstrates how motivated our community is for new Democratic leadership that will focus on delivering progressive solutions that work.”

He also underscored the significance of the race, characterizing it as a battle against the Trump MAGA machine.

Holden’s political career has been marked by a commitment to equity and justice, advocating for change in areas such as education, the workplace, transportation, and the criminal justice system. The statement said his bid for County Supervisor reflects a desire to provide a more urgent response to Los Angeles County’s challenges.

The Los Angeles County Supervisorial District 5, currently represented by Supervisor Kathryn Barger, encompasses Pasadena and cities in the Antelope, Crescenta, and Santa Clarita Valleys, as well as other portions of the San Gabriel and San Fernando Valleys.

Holden, a lifelong Democrat and Pasadena resident, was elected to the Pasadena City Council at 28, becoming the second African-American to serve as Mayor in the city’s history.

Holden, who chairs the Assembly’s Appropriations Committee, has either authored or supported legislation promoting gender equity, environmental conservation, mental health, and medical needs. A Pasadena High School alum, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University.

He resides in Pasadena with his wife, Melanie, and has five adult children.
