A hiker stranded between two waterfalls in Rubio Canyon in the Angeles National Forest was rescued late Tuesday afternoon by the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team (AMRT) and the Pasadena Fire Department’s Urban Search and Rescue team.
The hiker, who was dressed only in shorts and a T-shirt, was located by AMRT members who set up a rope system to lower him to the canyon bottom with a rescuer.
He was then walked out, assessed, and released.
Had he not been able to call for help successfully, he would have faced a very cold night.
The Pasadena Fire Department’s Urban Search and Rescue team spent 1 hour and 59 minutes on the scene, assisting with the technical rescue. The operation began at 2:25 p.m.
The rescue operation underscores the importance of being adequately prepared when hiking in wilderness areas, particularly in remote locations like Rubio Canyon, authorities said.
