All Saints Church to Host Concert Celebrating African-American Gospel and Spirituals

All Saints Church in Pasadena will host a powerful tribute to African-American gospel and spirituals on Sunday, June 2 at 5 p.m.

The concert, titled “Songs Of Freedom: A Joyous Celebration of Spiritual and Gospel,” marks the return of the Canterbury and Coventry Spring Concert and promises to be an unforgettable experience, according to the event’s Facebook page. This will be the choirs’ first-ever concert focusing on this cherished and uniquely American musical tradition.

The performance will feature the church’s Canterbury and Coventry Choirs, along with acclaimed vocalists Michal Connor, Maiya Sykes, and Stephen McDonough. A dynamic rhythm section, including Dave Tull on drums, Oskar Cartaya on bass, Dewayne Swan on Hammond B-3, and David Otis on saxophone, will accompany the choirs, adding to the energy and excitement of the evening.

The concert is being organized by All Saints Church, located at 132 N. Euclid Ave. in Pasadena. The Rev. Mike Kinman is Rector of the church. The Director of Music and Organist-Choirmaster is Weicheng Zhao, Ph.D., and the Associate Organist-Choirmaster is Grace Chung, Ph.D.

The event is open to the public and admission is free.
