The Altadena Town Council convenes on Tuesday, Aug. 20, starting at 7 p.m. at the Altadena Community Center, located at 730 East Altadena Drive. The meeting agenda includes updates on housing ordinances and the election of a new Councilmember.

The Council meeting will begin with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Cub Scout Troop 40 from Jackson and Franklin Schools – a tradition often sets a community-oriented tone for the proceedings.

Ayala Scott from the Department of Regional Planning will provide an update on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and other housing ordinances. This presentation comes amid growing interest in alternative housing solutions in the area.

The Council will hold a supplemental election for Census Tract 4603.02, with candidates presenting statements before voting takes place. The newly elected member will be sworn in during the meeting.

Public safety reports will be delivered by representatives from the California Highway Patrol, Altadena Sheriff’s Station Capt. Marjory Jacobs, and County Fire Chief Anderson Mackey. These updates are expected to address recent community safety concerns.

Dr. Katie Clark, President of the Altadena Libraries Board of Trustees, will provide an update on the Altadena Library, potentially discussing recent developments or upcoming initiatives. The library has been a focal point for community engagement.

Steve Toscano, District Manager for Stater Bros., will introduce the company to the Council. This presentation may signal potential business developments in the Altadena area.

The meeting will also feature reports from various community entities, including the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation and the Chamber of Commerce. These updates often highlight local events and economic trends.

Residents will have the opportunity to address the Council during the general public comment period on any item that is or is not listed on the agenda. Comments are limited to two minutes per speaker to ensure an orderly meeting.

Officers’ reports, including those from the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, and Corresponding Secretary, will be presented. The agenda also includes approval of the previous meeting’s minutes and the current meeting’s agenda.

Additional items on the agenda include a Land Use Committee report and Census Tract reports for tracts 4602, 4603.02, 4610, and 4613.
