The Pasadena event begins at 6:15 p.m. at the Rose Bowl’s north end of Lot I. Participants must register and sign a liability waiver either in advance or at the event.
The event serves as a powerful statement to raise awareness about the dangers cyclists face daily while remembering those lost on public roadways, according to the organizers.
The worldwide event traces its origins to 2003 when Chris Phelan organized the first ride in Dallas, Texas, following the death of local athlete Larry Schwartz, who was struck and killed by a school bus mirror while cycling. What began as a local memorial has expanded to 228 locations across 40 states and 16 countries on five continents.
Cyclists are required to wear helmets and bring lights, as it will be dusk or dark when riders return to the Rose Bowl. Participants should also prepare for potentially chilly weather with appropriate gear.
Ride of Silence Pasadena organizers, a dedicated group of volunteers who fund the event with their personal resources, will provide free tacos to all registered riders.
The organizers are also actively seeking experienced ride marshals and check-in volunteers for this year’s event.
Ride of Silence Pasadena has established a GoFundMe campaign to help offset expenses including marketing, food, and website maintenance. Those interested in supporting the event financially can find donation information at https://www.
