A motion by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, an MTA Director, asks the MTA to retain the Sheriff’s Department contract to provide law enforcement services for Union Station as part of the new Transit Law Enforcement Services Contract.

“The primary goal of Metro’s law enforcement contract is to ensure the safety of its passengers,” Antonovich said in his attached motion. “The Sheriff’s Department has developed a specialized team, the Threat Interdiction Unit, which is specifically trained to carry out its counter terrorism mission at critical sites, such as Union Station.”

The motion also directs the CEO to work with Sheriff’s Department to determine the reasonable cost adjustments necessary for the department to perform these functions during the life of the contract.
