Transportation Design students from the ArtCenter College of Design are participating in this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, where automotive enthusiasts discover the newest rides by the world’s top carmakers.
Happening at Los Angeles Convention Center at 1201 S Figueroa Street, the show started last Friday on Nov. 18 and runs until Nov. 27.
According to ArtCenter, exhibits of students’ work showcased throughout the show include concepts developed for Meyers Manx, the California automotive company that created the original Dune Buggy.
ArtCenter students are also conducting live sketching demos throughout the show.
“ArtCenter College of Design will showcase a number of Transportation Design students as they conduct live sketching demos alongside visits with several well-known alumni who will informally discuss their career trajectories, latest projects and can’t miss L.A. Auto Show highlights.”
On Friday evenings and throughout the weekends, ArtCenter is conducting live sketching workshops and guided tours of the L.A. Auto Show led by “knowledgeable transportation designers who can provide the inside scoop of what it’s like to design new vehicles and concept cars,” according to the ArtCenter website.
“ArtCenter’s Transportation Design program offers a bachelor’s degree in Transportation Design, a master’s degree in Transportation Systems and Design, and a number of extension courses (offered in person and online) that allow people of all ages and skill levels to explore the basics of car design.”
Founded in 1907, the LA Auto Show is one of the biggest and best attended automotive shows across the world.
Multiple reports stated that new electric vehicles (EVs) took center stage at this year’s LA Auto Show.
“Electric vehicles, and the greenwashing that often comes with it, took center stage, and hydrogen fuel cell technology made a few cameos. There were even several startups that showed up to reveal electric restomods, 3D printing tech and three-wheeler design,” reported Techcrunch.
The show also highlights the various extensions of EV and emerging technologies including LA-based, INDI EV’s INDI One, a four-door, 475-horsepower EV with a 300-mile range and a revolutionary interior living space and Motional’s all-electric IONIQ 5 robotaxi, a Level 4 autonomous vehicle that can safely operate without a driver, according to LA Auto Show website.
The show started its 10-day run on Friday, Nov. 18 and continues through Nov. 27.
