Bomb Squad Detonates Three Suspected Pipe Bombs

On Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at 7:30 a.m., police officers were conducting a follow-up investigation to an incident that had happened the night before. They were searching an apartment in the 200 block of S. Oak Knoll Avenue, when they found what they believed to be items that resembled homemade explosive devices, possibly pipe bombs. Officers immediately secured and evacuated the building and two adjacent apartment buildings. Approximately 10 residents were evacuated from their apartments.

As a precaution, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad responded to the scene and evaluated the suspected pipe bombs. The Bomb Squad removed and detonated them, by using their remote safety robot. The bomb technicians believed the three items were pipe bombs, however will conduct a further analysis on the materials that were collected at the scene. Suspect Beau Eginton, 29 was taken into custody for possession of an explosive device, police report.

Officers had originally been at the location the night before when they arrested Clint Brian Macias, 30. Suspect Macias had fled from Lake and Walnut, when officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The officers pursued the suspect to Cordova and El Molino, where the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into neighboring yards. Officers set up a containment perimeter and after searching the area, located the suspect in the apartment of an acquaintance. 

Police report that Macias was taken into custody for evading and possession of methamphetamine.
