This summer is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in the history of the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena, as the Club celebrates a series of major facility improvements while welcoming a record-breaking 900 children to its summer Camp Great Futures.
The Club’s facilities on North Fair Oaks Avenue have been transformed through the generosity of community partners, creating new opportunities for children and teens to learn, play, and thrive. Among the highlights are a newly renovated gymnasium, made possible through a partnership with the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation and the Regine Sixt Children’s Foundation, and a sparkling new pool made possible by The Ahmanson Foundation. The updated pool provides a safe and welcoming environment for the Club’s swim team, swim lessons, water safety instruction, and recreational swimming.
The youngest Club members also now have a place designed just for them, with the Club-funded renovation and re-opening of the Scott Center facility on the Club’s North Fair Oaks Avenue campus. The dedicated space features age-appropriate furnishings, learning materials, and equipment that encourage creativity, exploration, and early childhood development. Outside, children can enjoy a large playground built specifically for younger ages, giving them a safe and engaging place to play and grow.
Across Pasadena, Club kids at the Slavik Clubhouse on East Del Mar Boulevard are also enjoying a newly renovated gym. The gym renovation project was made possible by the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation as well, in partnership with Toyota. The new gyms at both Clubhouses support year-round sports, fitness programs, and recreational activities for thousands of young people. The Club also rents out the gyms and pools at both Pasadena Clubhouses to community groups and the public during the hours when Club programs are not in session.
“This is an incredible milestone for our Club and our community,” said Club CEO Lisa Cavelier. “These investments create welcoming, inspiring spaces where young people can build confidence, develop healthy habits, and make lifelong memories. We are deeply grateful to our partners and donors whose generosity is helping shape brighter futures for hundreds of local children.”
The improvements come as the Club’s summer Camp Great Futures reaches 900 youth enrolled, making this the Club’s largest summer program since the pandemic. Throughout the summer, campers are participating in educational enrichment, sports, swimming, arts, STEM activities, field trips, leadership development, and healthy meals in a safe, supportive environment.
“Our community continues to demonstrate what is possible when organizations, businesses, and philanthropists work together on behalf of young people,” reflected Cavelier. “These new spaces will serve generations of children and families for years to come.”
