The Pasadena Public Library Commission will present its fiscal year 2025 work plan and annual report at a regular meeting on Wednesday, June 18.
The meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. at Jefferson Branch Library, will detail the commission’s advisory efforts across three primary areas: advocacy, fiscal responsibility and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
The commission’s annual report shows extensive community engagement through partnerships and outreach programs, including promotion of the “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” literacy initiative. Library representatives attended meetings with the Friends of the Pasadena Public Library and participated in fundraising efforts while working to educate the community about the Central Library renovations.
On fiscal matters, the commission maintained regular communication with City Council members regarding the library budget and actively promoted Measure PL to secure funding for the Central Library project. The report said commission representatives attended budget hearings and presented information on collections, renovations and financial management tools.
The commission also implemented a new goal-tracking system during the fiscal year to improve progress evaluation and strategic alignment with objectives, according to the work plan. This system allows for more systematic oversight of the library system’s development during the major infrastructure project.
Diversity and inclusion efforts centered on advising staff about diverse material collections and recruiting commissioners from varied backgrounds. The commission supported cultural heritage events, bilingual programs and services for homebound and multilingual patrons. Accessibility improvements linked to the Central Library project also received attention.
Community wellness initiatives highlighted in the report include therapy animal programs and health-focused collaborations. The library system maintained an active media presence between May and June 2025, featuring cultural celebrations, educational activities and partnerships with city and school programs.
The commission’s work plan demonstrates the library system’s role as both a cultural center and civic institution while navigating the challenges of operating during major renovations. The Central Library project remains the primary focus as commissioners work toward a successful reopening.
The Jefferson Branch Library is located at 1500 E. Villa Street in Pasadena.
