Authorities reported 29 new COVID-19 infections and one new death in Pasadena on Friday.

Average daily infections over the prior week dropped to 30.1, which was the lowest rate recorded since Nov. 18, according to city data.

The most recent victim was described as a woman who lived in a community setting, as opposed to in a care facility, city spokesman Lisa Derderian said.

Friday’s figures raised the city’s overall totals to 10,616 detected cases of the virus and 293 fatalities.

The city distributed more than 1,000 second doses of vaccines on Thursday, Derderian said.

“We have the infrastructure in place to continue our mass vaccination sites,we just need the vaccine so we can schedule the thousands who have called and are on our list once product is available.”

Huntington Hospital reported treating 100 COVID-19 patients, with 19 of them being treated in intensive care units.

Over the prior week, the facility recorded an average of 10.5 COVID-19 admissions daily, according to hospital data.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced 3,497 new detected infections and 137 deaths on Friday, raising the county-wide totals to 1,161,773 known infections and 18,789 deaths.

The agency also reported 15 new detected cases of MIS-C, a COVID-19-related condition affecting children, in the county. In total, 90 cases have been detected.

County officials reported 3,604 people hospitalized with the virus, with 30% of them being cared for in ICUs.

As new cases continued trending down following the recent holiday surge, L.A. County Director of Public Health Barbara Ferrer implored the public to maintain social distancing protocols in order to prevent another.

“I know I speak for everyone when I say that we do not want to endure another surge in cases like the one we are just now beginning to recover from,” she said. “The significant increase in MIS-C we are seeing in LA County is a consequence of our recent surge and demonstrates the terrible ripple effect of a large increase in cases.”

“We ask that everyone continue to follow the rules and safety measures that slow COVID-19 spread so that our recovery journey continues,” Ferrer added. “Please celebrate this weekend’s holidays at home and only with the people you live with. Transmission of COVID-19 remains widespread in our county.”

State public health officials announced 10,059 new infections and 546 additional deaths on Friday, bringing the statewide total to 3,381,615 cases of COVID-19 and 46,002 fatalities.

The statewide positivity rate over the prior week had declined to 4.3%, and the 14-day rate was recorded at 5.1%.
