The Pasadena City Council on Monday could approve an $800,000 contract with Santa Fe Springs-based CJ Concrete Construction, Inc. for the city’s Miscellaneous Sidewalk Repair Program for 2021.
The contract amount includes the base contract amount of $642,000 and a contingency of $158,000.
Work for the repair program is covered by Chapter 12.04 of the Pasadena Municipal Code which says the repair of damaged sidewalks is the adjacent property owner’s responsibility.
The ordinance is applied when a building permit for improvements valued at more than $20,000 is obtained, or when a property sale requires clearance through the Presale Certification Program. Under the ordinance, property owners may hire a contractor to repair existing damage under a Department of Public Works permit, or pay the city to include the repair work in its upcoming concrete sidewalk repair project.
The contract’s scope of work includes the removal and replacement of portions of damaged concrete, as well as improvements to a sidewalk, a colored sidewalk, and a driveway apron. It also includes associated tree root pruning or cutting, traffic control, and other related work at various locations throughout the city.
Nine contractors submitted proposals to the city after a notice inviting bids was published in April and sent out to local vendors.
In an agenda report for Monday’s City Council meeting, the Public Works Department said CJ Concrete Construction, Inc. was the lowest responsive and responsible bidder and should be awarded the contract.
Construction work is expected to begin in the fall and should be completed by next summer, the report said.
