City Launches Emergency Fund to Aid Immigrant Families Affected by Enforcement

City officials have launched a new emergency assistance fund aimed at helping immigrant families facing financial hardship tied to federal immigration enforcement activity.

The Pasadena Emergency Assistance Fund, created through a partnership between the City and the California Community Foundation, will provide support for essential needs including housing, rent, utilities, child care and legal services, according to city officials.

City Council authorized the effort last year, approving $100,000 on July 21 to establish what was initially described as an Immigrant Assistance Fund.

The California Community Foundation will administer the program, drawing on its experience managing similar aid efforts across the region. The organization will host the City’s fund on its Pledge online platform, which is also used for other local relief initiatives.

Funds raised will be distributed to local nonprofit organizations, which will provide direct assistance to Pasadena residents affected by immigration enforcement actions. The foundation will also provide periodic reports to the city detailing how many individuals are served and the types of assistance provided.

City officials said the program is designed to ensure aid reaches residents quickly through trusted community-based organizations.

The fundraising campaign is now live and open to the public, with officials encouraging donations from residents and supporters. Contributions can be made as one-time or recurring monthly donations through several payment options, including credit card, PayPal and Venmo.

Organizers stressed that neither the California Community Foundation nor the Pledge platform will charge administrative fees, meaning all donations will go directly to the Pasadena Emergency Assistance Fund. While the platform may suggest a voluntary tip to help cover processing costs, donors can opt out.

Pasadena has set an initial fundraising goal of $250,000, with the option to expand or extend the campaign depending on community response and need.

Officials said the fund reflects the city’s broader effort to support vulnerable residents and respond to the impacts of federal policies at the local level.
