With an abundance of Civil War magazines donated to the Pasadena Civil War Round Table over the last few years during the pandemic, the group was faced with a challenge. These magazines feature in-depth, scholarly articles about battles, military and civilian participants and the seminal national conflict they experienced. Normally, these are offered for sale at the group’s monthly meetings to go toward Civil War battlefield preservation projects. With two years of virtual meetings, they had amassed a lifetime supply of magazines with far more than they could ever use.
Board members suggested that the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) may want to use these magazines as supplemental resources for their history and social studies classes. In June, seven boxes of magazines totaling 600 issues were delivered to the district office. Ashley Butler, History/Social Science Specialist for the district, accepted the donation, with planned distribution to the district’s history and social studies teachers at their professional development training in the fall.
