Fuller Seminary has announced the appointment of Dr. Michael Goh as the next dean of the School of Psychology & Marriage and Family Therapy (SOPMFT), succeeding Dr. Ted Cosse, who has held the position since 2019. Dr. Goh will officially assume the role on September 1, 2023.
Dr. Goh currently serves as a professor in the Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy and Development in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota. Additionally, he holds the Campbell Leadership Chair in Education and Human Development. Dr. Goh’s prior experience includes eight years as a senior administrator at the University of Minnesota, where he held positions such as vice president, associate vice provost, and chief diversity officer.
Born in Singapore and raised in the Methodist Church, Dr. Goh completed his National Military Service as a full lieutenant. He holds degrees from Indiana University (BA and MS), the National Institute of Education in Singapore (Postgraduate Diploma), and the University of Minnesota (PhD).
Fuller Seminary President David Emmanuel Goatley praised Dr. Goh’s appointment, stating, “Professor Goh’s extensive scholarly research and creative record along with his experience as an effective senior administrator in an R1 institution will contribute significantly to the continuing growth of the school and strength of the seminary.”
Dr. Alexis Abernethy, chief academic officer and chair of the search committee, also expressed gratitude for the discernment process that led to Dr. Goh’s selection. She highlighted his excellent leadership skills and shared her enthusiasm for working with him, as well as the new perspectives he will bring to both the SOPMFT and the seminary.
The search committee included professors Miyoung Yoon Hammer, Cedric Williams, Kenneth Wang, and Kutter Callaway, staff member Beth Smith, and students Judy Taylor and Matt Wallace.
