Cool, unsettled, and possibly showery weather will abruptly change starting on Friday, when clear, warm skies will return for the weekend and the start of next week, according to National Weather Service forecasters.
Wednesday’s partly cloudy skies brought temperatures struggling to reach the mid-60s, running 6 to 12 degrees below normal. Gusty northwest winds were expected throughout the day and into evening hours.
The unstable weather pattern continues Thursday with another chance of showers developing by afternoon and extending into evening. NWS forecasters note a slight chance of thunderstorms, especially in valley and foothill areas like Pasadena.
The dramatic warming begins Friday, with highs climbing into the lower to mid-70s as high pressure builds over the region. The warming intensifies over the weekend, bringing temperatures a few degrees above normal Saturday and 4 to 8 degrees above normal by Sunday.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11:00 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 63. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south in the afternoon. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Thursday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11:00 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 43. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 70. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.
