Pasadena officials announced a comprehensive drone ban for the 2025 Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game, implementing strict federal flight restrictions to protect hundreds of thousands of expected visitors on New Year’s Day.
“Due to the heightened awareness we’ll have more eyes and ears out and we will have a zero tolerance for drones. Nice to get as a holiday gift, but leave them at home! ” said Lisa Derderian, Public Information Officer, City of Pasadena.
The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a Temporary Flight Restriction covering both Wednesday, Jan. 1 events, prohibiting all unauthorized aircraft, including drones, in Pasadena airspace.
Violators will face potential fines, arrest and imprisonment, City officials said.
Pasadena Police Chief Gene Harris said the department will deploy both visible and covert security measures throughout the events.
Officials have designated the area a “NO DRONE ZONE” and direct operators to consult the Federal Aviation Administration’s website (www.faa.gov) for detailed restriction information.
Recent media reports have detailed reports of sightings of unidentified drones operated over residential and military areas of the continental United States. Derderian said she was “not aware of any sightings being reported at this point” over Pasadena or Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
