With a snip of a sleek black ribbon, a host of executives from Lucid Motors opened their newest ‘“studio” in Southern California along a busy stretch of Colorado Boulevard in Old Pasadena on Friday, May 31.
Would-be buyers swarmed the two cars on display—the Lucid, which is the basic design, and the Gravity, which is the luxury SUV-style model.
Remarking on the increasing demand for the luxurious electric vehicle brand, Lucid Chief Operating Officer Marc Winterhoff said, “It’s a combination of the luxury and technology that only we have. Nobody can drive as far when it comes to range. And no other electric has this kind of space.”
Winterhoff added that the majority of the buyers these days are former Tesla owners.
“About 40% of our customers used to drive a Tesla and they want to have something different. They have a better interior, better craftsmanship, while still going with the best technology out there. And then obviously you have the classical BMW and Mercedes customers, but by far it’s Tesla drivers wanting a change.”
The Pasadena dealership joins stores in Century City, Torrance, Beverly Hills and Newport Beach, among others.
The dealership is located at 30 West Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena.
Founded in 2007, Lucid Motors has positioned itself as a technology-driven competitor to established luxury automakers like Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW. The company’s mission is to advance sustainable mobility through innovative EV technology and design.
The longest range model in the line-up is the Lucid Air Grand Touring, rated at 516 miles. The fastest model, the Lucid Air Sapphire, can accelerate from 0-60 mph in under to seconds and has a top speed of 205v mph.
Lucid Motors operates retail locations across the United States and has ambitious expansion plans, aiming to open over 50 studios by mid-2023. The Pasadena opening is expected to generate local economic benefits and create new job opportunities.
