More than 450 local families will celebrate Thanksgiving with a turkey on the table this year thanks to Friends In Deed and the Pasadena Jaycees, who successfully concluded this year’s Operation Gobbler on Sunday.

On November 23, approximately 380 households visited Friends In Deed to pick up turkeys during the main distribution. Additional turkeys were provided during regular Food Pantry hours on Tuesday and Wednesday, ensuring every guest who wanted one received it.

The effort was supported by the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Kathleen Haralambos, the law office of Adamson Ahdoot LLP, the Philoptochos Society at St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Church, the Office of Mayor Victor Gordo, Congresswoman Judy Chu, and many others who contributed time, resources, and holiday spirit.

“We are grateful for our longstanding partnership with the Pasadena Jaycees, who return year after year to make Operation Gobbler such a meaningful community tradition,” said Tim Nistler, Director of the Food Pantry at Friends In Deed. “This event truly reflects the heart of Pasadena: neighbors, organizations, civic leaders, and volunteers all coming together to ensure families can celebrate this special time of year with a warm and festive meal. We’re deeply thankful for everyone who helped make this possible.”

Operation Gobbler remains one of Friends In Deed’s most cherished holiday initiatives, honoring its mission to serve neighbors experiencing homelessness and vulnerability with compassion and dignity.

Friends In Deed, which celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2024, operates five core programs: the Food Pantry, The Women’s Room, Street Outreach and Housing, Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance, and the Bad Weather Shelter.
