Fuller Theological Seminary Professor Awarded Honorary Doctorate by University of Eastern Finland

Professor Veli-Matti Kärkkäinen, a Professor of Systematic Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Eastern Finland. The recognition comes for his extensive research and publications in theology, particularly noted for their ecumenical perspective.

Professor Kärkkäinen, who also serves as Docent of Ecumenics at the University of Helsinki, will be formally honored at the University of Eastern Finland’s upcoming Conferment Ceremony, a statement by Fuller Seminary said. 

“This honor bestowed upon Professor Kärkkäinen reflects his extraordinary dedication to theology and his influential role in shaping interfaith understanding worldwide,” David Emmanuel Goatley, President of Fuller Theological Seminary, said. 

Professor Kärkkäinen said he is honored to receive the recognition.

“It is a privilege to see one’s life work appreciated in such a significant way,” he said. He also thanked Fuller Theological Seminary and his colleagues worldwide for their continued support.

The honorary doctorate for Prof. Kärkkäinen also underscores Fuller Theological Seminary’s global influence in the field of theological education, the statement said.
