District 6 Field Liaison Justin Chapman has set up a GoFundMe to help his family raise money after the family lost two homes in the devastating Eaton Canyon Fire.

The family is attempting to raise $40,000. So far they have raised nearly $10,000.

“The Chapman family has lost two homes and two cars, along with just about everything they owned, in the Eaton Fire,” according to the GoFundMe. “Please help them rebuild by donating what you can.”

The Eaton Fire was reported at about 6:20 p.m. on Jan. 7 in the area of Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive in the hills above Altadena amid hurricane-force Santa Ana winds, according to California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Los Angeles County Fire Department Chief Anthony Marrone said Thursday morning the spread of the fire had been significantly slowed in most areas thanks to efforts of firefighters and diminishing winds.

Hundreds of homes have been destroyed along with the Altadena Senior Center, Fox’s Restaurant and the Altadena Hardware Store.

“Just about the entire town has been destroyed,” said Managing Editor André Coleman. “A lot of people like the Chapmans need help.”

By Thursday afternoon, however, the advance on Mount Wilson increased the size of the fire from 10,600 acres in the morning to 13,690 acres.

The Chapmans have lived on Concha Street in Altadena since 1991.

Chapman’s parents Howard and Sharon are retired, having worked as a handyman and Pasadena Unified school teacher, respectively, for many years.

His children Galvin and Kira lost their recently purchased condo. Kelsey’s workplace, Steve’s Bikes, is also gone.

Anything you can give will be an enormous help as they work to rebuild their lives.

Chapman, a celebrated author and reporter, currently serves as Councilmember Steve Madison’s field representative. His work has appeared in Pasadena Now, the Pasadena Weekly and the Pasadena Star-News.

Chapman made history in Altadena when he became the youngest elected member of the Altadena Town Council at 19.
