Heat Ahead: Spring Starts with a ‘Heat Wave’

Spring is starting with summer heat. National Weather Service forecasters predict a high of 92 in Pasadena on Monday but say the mercury just might jump even higher.

The temperature trend shows a dramatic warming period Monday could drop a shade Tuesday. By Thursday, temperatures are expected to return to near-normal levels for late March.

No rain is expected throughout the forecast period for Pasadena and surrounding areas. The extended dry pattern will continue through at least mid-week.

Wind conditions will remain relatively calm for Pasadena residents. Morning northeast winds today will stay below advisory levels, with weak offshore flow continuing through Monday. By Tuesday, winds will shift to a weak onshore flow, helping to usher in cooler temperatures.

Weekend warriors can expect a significant shift in weather patterns by next weekend. Models suggest below-normal temperatures with the possibility of night and morning cloud cover extending into Saturday and Sunday. Some forecast solutions even hint at a chance of rain by Sunday, though confidence in this precipitation outlook remains low.

While no formal heat advisories are currently planned, residents should stay hydrated and check on vulnerable populations during Monday’s peak heat. The rapid transition from warm to cooler conditions later in the week may come as a relief to many.
