Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who represents Pasadena, on Thursday called on residents to step up and help prevent wildfires as a scorching heat wave engulfs the region, pushing temperatures well into triple digits today and throughout the weekend.
The National Weather Service forecasts highs near 108° in Pasadena on Friday, climbing to 110° on Saturday. Excessive heat warnings are in effect for many communities in the County’s Fifth District.
“Conditions are ripe for triggering a wildfire in our County, especially in the foothill and northern communities I represent,” Barger said in a statement. “I’m calling on the public to please remain vigilant. We all need to do our part to decrease the likelihood of wildfires. Even the smallest ember or cigarette butt can spark a big wildfire and have disastrous consequences. Don’t put your family, neighbors, or community at risk.”
The Supervisor urged vigilance, emphasizing the importance of community safety. She advised residents in fire-prone areas to stay alert, sign up for local emergency alert systems, and listen to local news broadcasts.
“If you receive an evacuation message from local law enforcement officials, don’t hesitate to follow their directions,” Barger said. “Prioritize safety during this heat wave.”
