Supervisor Kathryn Barger spearheads campaign to promote affordable access to the Hollywood Bowl.
Los Angeles County officials have unanimously approved a motion to increase public awareness of $1 tickets available for Los Angeles Philharmonic concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. The initiative, introduced by Supervisor Kathryn Barger, intends to make the iconic venue more accessible to residents of all income levels.
The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, which operates the Hollywood Bowl in coordination with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, offers $1 tickets for concerts on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the summer season. Despite this longstanding program, officials believe more can be done to promote it.
“During these tough economic times, many L.A. County residents are focused on simply surviving, so attending arts performances may fall by the wayside,” said Supervisor Barger. She emphasized the mental health benefits of live performances and the Bowl’s role in community connection.
The newly approved motion tasks the Department of Parks and Recreation with creating a public information campaign in collaboration with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The campaign will utilize various County departments to spread the word about the affordable tickets, including the Department of Public Social Services, the Department of Children and Family Services, and the Los Angeles County Public Library.
Norma E. García-González, Director of the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, expressed pride in the partnership with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She stated, “Expanding public access has been and continues to be one of our priorities.”
In addition to the $1 tickets, the Hollywood Bowl has recently expanded its park-and-ride and shuttle services, now offering online transportation for as low as $7 per person. The venue also allows patrons to bring their own food and beverages, enabling attendees to enjoy a night at the Hollywood Bowl for a mere $8 total.
Kim Noltemy, Los Angeles Philharmonic President and Chief Executive Officer, announced an increase in the number of $1 tickets available. “We are excited to expand our commitment to accessibility by offering more than 12,000 additional $1 tickets, raising the total to 36,080,” she said.
Noltemy added that their community outreach also provides tens of thousands of complimentary tickets to community and neighborhood groups.
