[City of Pasadena]
A major construction project is set to begin along Avenue 64 in West Pasadena on Monday, January 8 with completion anticipated by summer 2024. The project, awarded to the Axiom Group by the City of Pasadena, will focus on the intersections of Burleigh Drive and Cheviotdale Drive.
Construction will include a traffic roundabout at the Burleigh Drive intersection and curb extensions at the Cheviotdale Drive intersection, aimed at reducing speeding along the Avenue 64 corridor.
Pedestrian safety improvements, such as crosswalk curb extensions, landscape beautification, street lighting, and stormwater capture elements with the installation of drywell systems, are also part of the project.
The project was initiated due to public concerns about Avenue 64 being used as a cut-through route from neighboring cities, leading to speed-related collisions and poor pedestrian safety.
Funding for the project comes from various sources, including the Metro Measure R Mobility Improvement Program Grant, MTA Multi-Year Subregional Program, and Safe, Clean Water Program (Measure W).
Traffic control, the first phase of the three-phase construction, will begin on Friday, January 6, 2024. During the construction period, one lane for each direction of traffic will be maintained, but residents are advised to anticipate delays and use alternate routes when possible.
