Most government offices, financial institutions and schools in Pasadena will be closed Monday, May 26, for Memorial Day, but emergency services will continue operating and residents can still expect trash pickup on schedule.
The federal holiday honoring military personnel who died in service will shut down City Hall and most municipal services, though Pasadena Police and Fire Departments will maintain full staffing for emergencies, according to a city announcement.
Government and municipal services
All federal, state, and Los Angeles County government offices will be closed on Monday. In Pasadena, City Hall, the City Service Center, Pasadena Water and Power offices, the Municipal Services Payment Center, Parking Office, and Permit Center will close for the holiday.
The City Service Center will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday, while the Permit Center will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Online permitting services remain available at CityOfPasadena.net/
City Council will not meet Monday. The next council meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 2.
Emergency services will operate normally. Residents should dial 911 for life-threatening emergencies or call (626) 744-4241 to report suspicious activity to police.
For power emergencies, residents can call (626) 744-4673. Water emergencies should be reported to (626) 744-4138. Customers can access Pasadena Water and Power accounts online at PWPweb.com or by calling (626) 744-4005.
Transportation and parking
Pasadena Transit buses and Dial-A-Ride services will not operate on Monday, resuming regular service on Tuesday. Los Angeles Metro buses and trains will run on Sunday schedules.
Parking meters not posted as “No Parking” zones will be free Monday, and time limits will not be enforced. However, violations for overnight parking, red curb parking, “No Parking” zones and blocking fire hydrants will still be ticketed. Regular enforcement resumes Tuesday.
Postal and package services
U.S. Postal Service facilities will close for retail transactions Monday, with no residential or business mail delivery. Priority Mail Express will continue, as it operates year-round.
United Parcel Service will not provide pickup or delivery Monday. UPS Store hours may vary by location. FedEx Express and FedEx Ground services will also be suspended.
Financial services
All major banks, including Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Chase, will close Monday following Federal Reserve guidelines. Credit unions throughout the area will also close, though ATMs and online banking will remain available.
The New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ and other major financial markets will not trade on Monday. Bond markets will also close. Online trading platforms will be inaccessible for real-time transactions.
Banking services resume Tuesday at 9 a.m., stock trading at 6:30 a.m. and Federal Reserve operations at 8 a.m.
Schools and libraries
Pasadena Unified School District offices will be closed. ArtCenter College of Design and Pasadena City College will not hold classes.
All Pasadena Public Libraries will close Sunday and Monday, reopening at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Recreation and waste services
Recreation and community centers operated by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department will close on Monday, but all parks will remain open. No site reservations are being accepted for the holiday.
Trash, recycling, and yard waste collection will proceed as scheduled Monday with no delays. Bulky item pickups will not be available.
Memorial Day ceremony
The city will honor fallen military personnel at the Pasadena Memorial Day Commemoration at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park, 85 E. Holly St. The public ceremony will include an invocation and benediction by Chaplain Pedro M. Trinidad, Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Navy Reserve.
The event is sponsored by the city’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, the Rose Bowl Stadium and the Pasadena Management Association.
Regular city services and business operations will resume Tuesday morning.
