The joint meeting between the Pasadena City Council and the Pasadena Unified School District has been rescheduled from April 28 to May 12 at the request of Pasadena Unified School District officials.
The rescheduling comes during a challenging period for the school District, which recently announced plans to eliminate more than 150 positions. Though some affected positions are currently vacant, the cuts have sparked significant community backlash.
The City Council will not meet this Monday as it is dark.
Pasadena Unified School District’s decision has particularly angered constituents following the devastating Eaton Fire, which destroyed 9,000 homes in the area. Many teachers lost their homes in the fire, adding another layer of hardship to those now facing potential job losses.
Dozens of teachers, students and parents have urged the District to reconsider the staffing reductions. The District currently employs approximately 2,700 people.
The City Council was originally scheduled to meet with Pasadena Unified School District on April 28 before District officials requested the postponement.
