Officials with the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games have proposed a venue change for Olympic Diving that would move the event from Exposition Park to the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center, according to KTLA.
The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center has a pool that already meets the sport’s Olympic standards. The center would also need fewer improvements ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games.
The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center would also provide additional amenities for athletes and seating for spectators,
The City is already set to host the men’s and women’s soccer semifinals and finals in the Rose Bowl.
“This presents a significant opportunity to deliver successful marquee events, with greater budget certainty, while also ensuring an exceptional competition venue for our diving athletes, with their safety remaining our top priority,” said LA28 Chief Executive Officer, Reynold Hoover. “The decision to stage Diving at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center is beneficial on all fronts, and we’re grateful to our Host City and Venue City partners for their unwavering support and collaboration as we finalize the 2028 Games Plan.”
Organizers have proposed the change of venue to “address athlete safety concerns, reduce operational complexities in the Exposition Park zone, and leverage an existing world-class venue.”
According to KTLA, as game planning progressed, the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center was determined to be a better fit for the diving competition than Exposition Park.
The proposal will be voted on by the Los Angeles City Council at a later date.
