Major healthcare services provider Optum informed California officials of its plans to make departmental closures and lay off employees across the state, including 55 workers at one of its Pasadena locations.
The company submitted a notice to the Employment Development Department on July 18, detailing its intention to implement departmental closures at multiple sites. The Pasadena facility affected is located at 797 S Fair Oaks Ave.
According to the letter sent to state authorities, Optum will carry out the separations in eight waves between September 16, 2024, and January 14, 2025. The company stated that affected employees’ last day of work would fall within these dates.
The Pasadena departmental closure is part of a larger restructuring effort by Optum across California. The company plans similar changes in several cities, including Glendora, Montebello, Covina, and Long Beach.
In total, Optum’s notice outlined changes affecting 524 employees at 15 locations throughout the state. This includes employees who telecommute from other states. The company is also conducting layoffs at two additional sites in El Segundo and Cerritos.
Optum currently operates two facilities in Pasadena: Optum – Pasadena Main at 675 S Arroyo Pkwy and Optum – Pasadena Urgent Care at 797 S Fair Oaks Ave.
The Pasadena facilities offer various services, including family practice, internal medicine, treatment for common illnesses, and care for minor injuries. The urgent care center provides on-site X-rays, laboratory testing, and COVID-19 testing.
