Paris Saint-Germain faces Atlético de Madrid at 12 p.m. today at Rose Bowl Stadium in the opening Group B match of the FIFA Club World Cup.
The match marks the first of six Club World Cup games scheduled at the Rose Bowl through June 25. Romanian referee István Kovács will officiate the contest between the French and Spanish clubs.
PSG enters the tournament after winning the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history by defeating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final in Munich, achieving what was described as the most significant victory in a Champions League final. The French club also won the national championship for the fourth consecutive time.
The city said it will implement street closures on Holly Street between Raymond Avenue and Arroyo Parkway from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today to support the FIFA Club World Cup matches.
Today’s match is part of the first expanded FIFA Club World Cup featuring 32 teams, compared to previous tournaments with six to eight teams. The month-long tournament runs through July 13 across 12 venues in 11 cities nationwide, with a total of 63 matches scheduled.
The tournament opened June 14 with Al Ahly drawing 0-0 with Inter Miami at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Group B also includes Brazilian side Botafogo and Seattle Sounders FC. The top two teams from each group advance to the Round of 16. Current Group B standings show all four teams with 0 games played, 0 wins, 0 draws, 0 losses, and 0 points, according to ESPN and Fox Sports.
The Rose Bowl’s complete schedule includes CF Monterrey vs. Inter Milan on Tuesday, June 17 at 6 p.m.; PSG vs. Botafogo on Thursday, June 19 at 6 p.m.; River Plate vs. CF Monterrey on Saturday, June 21 at 6 p.m.; Atlético Madrid vs. Botafogo on Monday, June 23 at 12 p.m.; and Urawa Red Diamonds vs. CF Monterrey on Wednesday, June 25 at 6 p.m.
All matches will be streamed live and free globally on DAZN. The PSG vs. Atlético Madrid match will be broadcast on TNT in the United States, with coverage also available on truTV, according to Olympics.com.
The tournament features a $1 billion prize pool distributed among participating clubs. Manchester City enters as defending champion after winning the Club World Cup title.
PSG and Atlético Madrid last met on November 6, when Atlético defeated PSG 2-1 at the Parc des Princes in Champions League group stage play. Angel Correa scored the winning goal for Atlético Madrid in the 93rd minute of that meeting, according to beIN Sports.
Tickets for today’s match range from $43 to an average price of $479 on the secondary market, according to Vivid Seats.
The Rose Bowl previously hosted the 1994 FIFA World Cup Final and the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final.
