First United Methodist Church in Pasadena will host a public conversation Sunday, May 31, at 11:30 a.m. in the Church Lounge featuring longtime member Marilynne Kennedy Wilander, who also serves as Elected Director in Development for the Pasadena Area League of Women Voters.
Wilander, a retired teacher and assistant principal, will discuss the League’s efforts to safeguard democratic processes as election season approaches.
According to the League’s website, “Elections are underattack, and the time to act is now. From federal overreach to attempts at voter intimidation and suppression, these threats are real and escalating.”
The event, titled Our Democracy Deserves Protection, is part of the church’s Sunday Conversation: Church and Society series. The announcement invites the public: “Come join us for this informative conversation and Learn what we can do to protect our democracy!” The League of Women Voters, founded in 1920, is a nonprofit organization that promotes informed and active engagement in government. Its Pasadena Area chapter has been active in voter education and advocacy, particularly around issues of access and fairness in elections.
