The City of Pasadena said it has completed the Central Park Playground Improvements project as of Friday, May 3.

According to Tony Olmos, Director of Pasadena Public Works, and Koko Panossian, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services, the $512,933 improvement project included the installation of new shade structures, an ADA-compliant rubberized play surface to improve accessibility and safety for children, and additional park lighting to enhance visibility and ambiance.

A joint statement from Olmos and Panossian said, “Thank you to all the community stakeholders for their patience and support through the project’s implementation phase.”

Before and after photos of the playground improvements were provided by the City, showcasing the significant enhancements made to the area.

This phase of the Central Park Improvement Projects was proposed in the 2006 Master Plan, although the whole project has been ongoing since 1991. Previous completed elements include walkway and path replacement, lighting installation, renovation and enlargement of the children’s play area, replacement of the existing restroom, and improvements and building restoration to El Centro de Acción building, including ADA upgrades.

According to the City’s plans, a future phase will involve the relocation of the north bowling lawn and the restoration of the south bowling lawn.
