Led by increases in burglaries, Pasadena’s crime rate jumped to a double-digit increase over 2012 for the first time this year, police reported Friday.
2,541 crimes were reported by police so far this year in Pasadena, up 12% from the 2,272 reported at this time last year.
The jump in July was dramatic. Police say 439 crimes occurred in Pasadena during July, which is up 40% from the 313 reported in July a year ago. July’s crime rate was boosted by 111% increase in deadly weapon assaults.
The monthly crime report provides statistics for crimes including homicides, rapes, assaults, burglaries, car thefts, and robberies. April, May and June’s statistics had shown a downward trend in crime.
Only one category, robbery, showed a decrease over 2012 in the July report.
