Pasadena Economic Development Director David A. Klug is scheduled to deliver a comprehensive briefing Tuesday to the City Council’s Economic and Technology Committee about local business openings, outreach efforts, special events, and advancements within the technology sector.
The update is expected to cover a range of topics, including business openings, outreach efforts, special events, and significant advancements in the tech and startup sectors.
Recent business openings in Pasadena highlighted in Klug’s report include coffee chain Stumptown at 1982 Lincoln Ave.; Mediterranean eatery Pez Coastal Kitchen at 61 N. Raymond Ave.; and pizza spot Prince St. Pizza at 49 E. Colorado Blvd.
Klug is also expected to provide an overview of his division’s business support initiatives like financial aid program research and an upcoming online event on Feb. 28 called “BIDs 101” to explain business improvement districts.
The director’s update will also reference Pasadena’s participation in two recent special events involving economic partnerships — one on Jan. 31 with Peru’s Export and Tourism Promotion Agency and another technology-focused meetup organized by Innovate Pasadena.
Significant local tech sector developments covered in the report include cancer therapy developer LIXTE Biotechnology, based at 680 E. Colorado Blvd., and two National Aeronautics and Space Administration-backed environmental and astrobiology studies at Jet Propulsion Laboratory totaling $3.7 million.
The Economic and Technology Committee meets Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at Pasadena City Hall in the Council Chamber, 100 North Garfield Avenue, Room S249.
