Pasadena Fire Engine 31, with a crew of four personnel, has been dispatched as part of a mixed-resource Strike Team to combat the rapidly growing Line Fire in San Bernardino County, according to Department spokesperson Lisa Derderian.
The team includes resources from Glendale, Arcadia, Monrovia, West Covina, Montebello, and Downey Fire Departments, Derderian said.
The Strike Team is led by Battalion Chiefs from Arcadia and Glendale Fire Departments.
The Line Fire, which started on September 5 near Baseline Street and Aplin Street in Highland, has grown to 20,553 acres and remains 0% contained as of Monday, threatening over 36,000 structures and forcing widespread evacuations.
The Strike Team, comprised of five engine companies and a Strike Team Leader, is providing mutual aid assistance to Cal Fire, the US Forest Service, and the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
The fire has prompted a significant response due to its rapid growth and the challenging conditions faced by firefighters.
Approximately 628 personnel are reportedly battling the blaze, including: 65 fire engines, 4 helicopters, 3 dozers and 13 hand crews.
Firefighters are facing challenging conditions, including steep terrain, 100+ degree temperatures, and unpredictable weather patterns caused by the fire itself.
