Pasadena firefighters were deployed Monday afternoon to assist in a brush fire in Simi Valley that has already burned about 1,360 acres and remains 0% contained, according to a Pasadena Fire Department statement.

The blaze, known as the Sandy Fire, drew a response at approximately 12:30 p.m., when the Pasadena Fire Department joined additional agencies as part of Strike Team 1203A, a five-engine strike team, according to the department’s statement.

Pasadena’s contribution included Engine 33 and a Strike Team Leader from Battalion 31, totaling four personnel and one battalion chief.

The fast-moving fire located south of Simi Valley erupted from about 10 acres on Monday.

CAL FIRE reports the cause remains under investigation and says about 750 firefighters are battling the blaze on steep terrain with air and ground resources after overnight winds eased and humidity increased.

At least one home on Trickling Brook Court has been destroyed and several other structures damaged as flames pushed toward Bell Canyon and the Los Angeles County line, threatening additional neighborhoods.

Officials say embers and shifting winds could drive further spread into canyons and hillside communities bordering Ventura and Los Angeles counties.

Mandatory evacuations and warnings remain in effect for thousands of residents in Ventura County and adjacent parts of Los Angeles County.
