This weekend, Pasadena residents can participate in what California State Parks calls the largest one-day volunteer event in the country: California Coastal Cleanup Day, with a local effort planned for Sunday at the Lower Arroyo Seco.
While the statewide California Coastal Cleanup Day occurs Saturday, Sept. 20, Pasadena Audubon has scheduled its affiliated cleanup for Sunday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon at 360 N. Arroyo Blvd.
The timing allows local volunteers to join the broader environmental mobilization that Heal the Bay, the Los Angeles County coordinator, says encompasses more than 70 cleanup sites across the county.
The California Coastal Commission coordinates the massive volunteer effort statewide, with locations available on the commission’s interactive map. Pasadena Audubon will provide additional cleanup supplies, though the organization asks participants to bring reusable water bottles, hats, and gloves.
