A Pasadena man was arrested by Santa Monica police on suspicion of shoplifting at the Bloomingdale’s in that city on Aug. 4. Police made the arrest after being called to the store regarding a theft suspect who was in custody shortly after noon, according to a report in the Santa Monica Daily Press.
Police said the suspect, Ruben James Wells, 33, entered the store and was recognized by employees as being a theft suspect from a few days prior, the newspaper reported. The store’s loss-prevention agents were notified.
Those agents then monitored the suspect as he selected items from the sales floor and ran out the door without paying for them, reported the newspaper. Agents stopped the suspect outside and tried to detain him but the suspect fled.
Santa Monica Place security personnel near Ocean Avenue and Broadway detained the suspect an all items taken, valued at approximately $900, were recovered.
Bail was set at $5,000.
