A 26-year-old Pasadena man was injured late Monday night after being struck in the head with a glass bottle during a fight outside his apartment, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Anthony Russo.

Russo said officers responded at 10:39 p.m. on June 1 to the 400 block of North Garfield Avenue after reports of a man yelling.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim with visible bruising and redness to his face.

The victim told police he had been asleep when he was awakened by loud voices and smoke entering his unit. He stepped outside to confront several individuals and became involved in a fight.

During the altercation, Russo said, a second man approached and struck the victim on the head with a glass bottle.

The victim retreated into his apartment, at which point additional bottles were thrown at his front window, shattering the glass.

Prior to officers’ arrival, the suspects fled the scene along with several other men. Russo described the primary suspect only as a Hispanic man, approximately six feet tall, with short black hair.

No further description was available, and the total number of suspects remains unclear.

Russo noted that while more than one person was present, only one individual was reported to have used the bottle as a weapon.

The victim did not know the suspects, Russo said, and no motive was given for the attack. The source of the smoke reported by the victim was also undetermined.
