Local transportation agencies are taking a stand for cleaner air by offering free public transit rides on Wednesday, October 2, as part of the seventh annual California Clean Air Day. Both Pasadena Transit and L.A. Metro are taking part.
“Pasadena Transit and Pasadena Dial-A-Ride encourage you to let them be your ride!” said Joaquin T. Siques, the City’s Director of Transportation, highlighting the city’s commitment to improving air quality.
The free rides will be available throughout Wednesday, Oct. 2.
It’s all part of SoCal Transit Week, a regional campaign running through October 6 to promote sustainable transportation across Southern California.
Several other transit agencies, including Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Metrolink, Orange County Transportation Authority, Foothill Transit, Omnitrans, Big Blue Bus, Culver CityBus, Riverside Transit, and Montebello Bus Lines are also participating in Clean Air Day by offering free rides.
“California Clean Air Day reinforces the importance of a safe, reliable public transit system in our collective effort to reduce pollution in our air and our reliance on fossil fuels,” said Metro Board Chair and Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn.
For Pasadena residents who regularly use Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority services, additional options are available. Metro passengers can board buses and trains without using their TAP cards, and turnstiles at rail stations will be unlatched for the day.
Metro Micro rideshare users can enter the code CleanAir24 to receive free rides on October 2 in all zones, with no limit on usage.
Metro Bike Share is offering free 30-minute rides with the code 100224, which can be used multiple times throughout the day. A credit or debit card is required, and usage fees apply for rides longer than 30 minutes. Electric Metro Bike unlocking fees are waived.
Metrolink commuters can travel without a ticket, simply boarding any Metrolink or Arrow train from any station.
The Clean Air Day initiative, as described by cleanairday.org, is “built on the idea that shared experiences unite people to action to improve our community health.” It encourages individuals and organizations to take actions big and small to address air pollution.
