Pasadena’s Municipal Services Committee will dive deep into the city’s solar landscape this Tuesday, examining how residential solar systems are reshaping the local energy ecosystem.

David Reyes, general manager of Pasadena Water and Power, is scheduled to lead a comprehensive presentation exploring the intricate world of solar installations, grid interactions, and community energy transformation.

The 4 p.m. meeting at City Hall’s Council Chamber will unveil the city’s current approach to solar energy, focusing on residential systems that are becoming increasingly important to Pasadena’s clean energy future.

Reyes will walk committee members through details of solar system installations, addressing everything from permitting processes to system size considerations.

The presentation promises to shed light on the city’s competitive solar incentives and recent improvements to streamline the often-complex solar installation process.

While Pasadena Water and Power does not currently offer solar panel rebates, the utility provides a Net Surplus Compensation program—also known as Net Energy Metering—which allows customers generating excess solar energy to receive compensation.

For residents contemplating solar installation, the city offers guidance.

Pasadena Water and Power recommends consulting the Solar Consumer Protection Guide before making any decisions. The guide provides critical insights into system sizing, return on investment, and the pros and cons of leasing versus owning solar equipment.

The Pasadena City Hall Council Chamber is at 100 N. Garfield Ave., Pasadena. For more call (626) 744-4005 or visit https://www.cityofpasadena.net/commissions/municipal-services-committee/.
