Pasadena Police Chief Recaps Last Week’s Critical Incidents

Editor’s Note: In this report, Pasadena Chief of Police Phillip Sanchez reviews noteworthy incidents which occurred or were concluded in recent weeks in Pasadena.

Critical Incidents:

On October 15, at about 2:01 p.m., Pasadena Police officers investigated a commercial burglary in the 100 block of South Mentor Avenue.  The case was assigned to Corporal T. Blanchard, who completed a comprehensive investigation noting that there was pattern of commercial break-ins in the general area.  Corporal Blanchard identified the suspect and requested assistance from the Fugitive Apprehension Unit (FAU).  On November 17, FAU detectives located the suspect who was arrested without incident.  The suspect was responsible for approximately eleven cases, which included at least one strong-arm robbery and several commercial burglaries.  The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed eight counts of commercial burglary, two counts of petty theft and one count of strong arm robbery.

On November 15, at about 12:19 a.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to the Colorado Street Bridge regarding a male adult standing on the other side of the safety railing.  On arrival, PPD officers located a subject who was contemplating suicide. Officers talked with the despondent male for an extended period of time.  Ultimately, the despondent male complied with the officer’s orders to climb back onto the bridge.  Once safely on the bridge, the subject was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

On November 16, at about 1:50 a.m., Pasadena Police Officer D. Morris was on routine patrol in the area of Lake Avenue and Union Street when he received a stolen vehicle alert. Officer Morris patrolled the area and identified the stolen vehicle (2015 Ford Escape SUV), which was occupied.  Officer Morris requested assistance and initiated a car-stop.  Two suspects were arrested without incident after they complied with the officer’s orders to surrender.  The suspects were later booked at the Pasadena jail.

On November 17, at about 10:13 a.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to the 300 block of North Mentor Avenue regarding someone brandishing a firearm.  On arrival, officers talked to the victim who said his roommate had pointed a gun at him following a verbal argument.  The victim described the suspect (male black adult) and provided other identifying information. The incident was documented and our investigation is ongoing.

On November 18Pasadena Police Special Enforcement officers completed a compliance check at a residence near Raymond Avenue and Washington Boulevard, where a known gang member lives.  During the check, SES officers recovered a loaded pistol.  The offender was arrested without incident and later booked at the Pasadena jail.

On November 19, at about 12:53 a.m., Pasadena Police officers investigated a call of shots fired in the area of El Molino Avenue and Mountain Street.  PPD officers recovered evidence from the incident suggesting that shots were actually fired.  Fortunately, no one was injured during this incident.

On November 20, at about 8:10 a.m. Pasadena Police officers investigated an attempted murder in the 900 block of E. Maple Street.  During the investigation, PPD officers learned the suspect (Alvarado Miranda, Hispanic Male, Pasadena Resident) stabbed his wife several timed during domestic dispute. The victim was transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment.  Miranda is not in custody at this time, however, PPD officers are actively looking for him.
