A long-standing Los Angeles County charity is reimagining its Thanksgiving food distribution program by partnering with Pasadena law enforcement to deliver turkeys directly to senior citizens’ homes.

Miracle on 1st Street, entering its 44th year of community service, has announced a collaboration with the Pasadena Police Department’s Community Affairs Division for the turkey give-away on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

The new door-to-door delivery model, designed to address mobility challenges faced by seniors, represents a significant departure from last year’s centralized distribution at Robinson Park, which served 250 families.

“Since our seniors, a lot of our distribution is going to actually be house to house. So our goal is to actually deliver them, hand deliver ’em to the seniors throughout the city,” said Priscilla Hernandez, President of Miracle on 1st Street.

The organization, which has operated in Pasadena for six years, aims to initially reach 100 recipients through this year’s targeted distribution approach.

The shift comes as families face mounting economic pressures, particularly affecting elderly residents who may struggle with mobility and access to traditional distribution sites.

“I think as a nation, we’ve seen a lot of the impact of the economy on our everyday prices and especially at the grocery stores,” Hernandez said.

Founded in 1981 by Daniel L. Hernandez, the organization has expanded beyond its Boyle Heights origins to provide year-round assistance, including toy giveaways and back-to-school programs.

“We are just really proud of the partnership that we’ve had with the different entities within the city of Pasadena because our leader’s goal is to ensure that everyone has access,” Hernandez said.

Community members must register before the event through either getaturkey.org or https://www.miracleon1ststreet.org/ for the Tuesday distribution, which begins at 9 a.m.
