The state has awarded $5 million to Pasadena for the construction of an affordable senior development at 280 Ramona Street, across City Hall, which is planned with 100 dwelling units, interior community space and a landscaped outdoor area for residents.
Housing Director William Huang’s announcement posted on the Office of the City Manager’s newsletter stated that the “Local Housing Trust Fund” came from the State of California Department of Housing and Community Development.
The project is proposed as a 100-unit affordable senior rental development that includes 44 studio units, 55 one-bedroom units, and one two-bedroom manager’s unit. It features a community room, management offices, and courtyard green space.
Huang said the units will be available to very low and low-income seniors.
Nonprofit National Community Renaissance of California (National CORE) is the developer of the project.
The Design Commission approved the Concept Design Review for the project last September 27, 2022.
According to Huang, National CORE is currently working on securing funding for the project.
Last November 2022, the City Council reallocated a total of $416,073 in HOME Community Development Housing Development funds to National CORE for the development of the proposed senior housing facility.
The proposed building is set back from Holly Street and Garfield Avenue to maintain existing view corridors and green space within the area.
The development is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to address the need for affordable housing and provide housing options for its senior residents.
The expected completion date for the affordable senior development at 280 Ramona Street in Pasadena is 2025.
