The City of Pasadena announced plans to celebrate extensive improvements to its historic Arroyo Seco trails with a public ribbon-cutting ceremony next month, officials said on Friday.

The December 7 event, organized in partnership with One Arroyo Foundation, will showcase comprehensive trail enhancements designed to improve accessibility and preserve natural resources throughout the park system.

“This project is a tremendous step forward in preserving the Arroyo Seco’s natural beauty while making it safer and more accessible for everyone,” Pasadena Mayor Victor M. Gordo said in a statement. “We are proud to celebrate this achievement with the community, knowing it will benefit generations to come.”

The improvements include new erosion control measures along the Lower Arroyo Loop Trails and enhanced access points near the Mayberry Parker Bridge with stone terrace trail steps.

Project contractors completed significant safety upgrades near the La Loma Bridge area, addressing previous landslide concerns, while adding new trail connections near Westminster Drive and Holly Street Bridge.

The renovation established a dedicated outdoor education area and implemented bridge enhancements near Devil’s Gate Dam and Little Cottonwood Canyon Creek for both pedestrian and equestrian use.

New stroller-accessible lower trails and an upper loop now connect the Mayberry Parker Bridge to the archery range, significantly expanding accessibility options for visitors.

“The completion of these trail improvements is a testament to what we can achieve when the community comes together,” Dan Rothenberg, president of One Arroyo Foundation, said.

The free public ribbon-cutting ceremony, scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Lower Arroyo Park parking area, will feature guided walks and a one-mile trail run organized by the Pasadena Pacers.
