An Extreme Heat Warning affecting a portion of Southwest California will continue to bake Pasadena through 8 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard office. The warning, which includes Pasadena and the Los Angeles County San Gabriel Valley, cites “dangerously hot conditions with temperatures between 96 and 104 expected,” along with warm overnight lows that will contribute to heat risk.
The National Weather Service lists Pasadena among dozens of affected cities, including Glendale, El Monte, Pomona, La Cañada Flintridge, and other communities across the San Gabriel Valley, the San Fernando Valley, and nearby mountain areas.
According to the Weather Service, “there is a high risk for dangerous heat illness for anyone, especially for the very young, the very old, those without air conditioning, and those active outdoors.” Warm overnight low temperatures are expected to contribute to the heat risk, “especially in the mountain and foothill locations.”
Residents are advised to “drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air?conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.” The bulletin also urges people outside to “take extra precautions,” “wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing,” “try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening,” and “take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.”
In addition to the Extreme Heat Warning affecting Pasadena, multiple Heat Advisories remain in effect until 8 p.m. Friday for other parts of the region, including the Cuyama Valley, Southern Salinas Valley, San Luis Obispo County interior valleys, Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County coasts, the Santa Ynez Valley, Ventura County beaches and inland coast, the Malibu Coast, Los Angeles County beaches, and the Palos Verdes Hills. Depending on the zone, high temperatures are expected to range from the 80s and 90s to near 100.
The advisories and warnings were issued in a series of National Weather Service bulletins timestamped 1:38 a.m. Wednesday.
