The Pasadena Unified School District is preparing parents and young students alike for the start of the 2024-25 school year on Monday, Aug. 19, offering a wide array of resources and tips to ensure a smooth transition for students and families.

On social media, PUSD touted the importance of a nutritious start to the day: “”#BackToSchool Tip: Get a great start by having breakfast before school. You can eat at home or for free at school. #PUSD school meals include fresh fruits and vegetables too.”

Beyond nutrition, PUSD is committed to student well-being and also provides comprehensive health services through its Primary Health Clinic, which offers immunizations and low-cost sports physicals for the District’s athletes.

To support academic success, the District is encouraging participation in after-school programs. PasadenaLearns Expanded Learning Programs offer a variety of enrichment activities, including STEM clubs, visual and performing arts, and tutoring. These programs run from dismissal until 6 p.m. on regular school days, with priority enrollment given to English Learners, students in foster care, those experiencing homelessness, or eligible for free/reduced-price meals.

PUSD also addresses transportation concerns. The District announced that all TK-12 students are now eligible for free Metro rides through the GoPass Program, an initiative that aims to increase accessibility to education for all students.

As temperatures rise, PUSD has implemented an extreme heat operation plan. The District advises students to stay hydrated, dress in loose, light-colored clothing, and pay attention to signs of dehydration. PUSD uses the National Weather Service’s HeatRisk forecast tool to identify potential heat risks.

PUSD officials emphasize the importance of completing the Alternative Income Form, which helps unlock significant funding for the District. The form is available through various platforms, including the Aeries Parent Portal and printable PDF versions.

The District also reminds families about the Parent/Student Handbook, which contains important information on rights, responsibilities, and policies. Additionally, PUSD notes that school meals, including breakfast, lunch, and supper, are available at no charge to all students.

COVID-19 testing is still recommended for those with symptoms or recent exposure, with test kits available at the Education Center and school sites.

The District is still enrolling students for the upcoming academic year. Families seeking more information can contact the PUSD Office of Enrollment at (626) 396-3639 or visit the District’s website, www.pusd.us
