Pasadena Village has initiated a collaborative program with Washington Park featuring weekly events for seniors at the new community center. The series, dubbed Village Connections, launched late last month and will run every Thursday through Nov. 14, offering free presentations and activities.

Katie Brandon, Executive Director of Pasadena Village, welcomed attendees to the inaugural event. Doug Colliflower, the event organizer, introduced the first speaker, Thermon “Rick” Holliday, who addressed the topic “The A, B, C’s, and D’s of Medicare @ 65+.”

Holliday, a Licensed Life and Health Broker and Certified Education Consultant specializing in Medicare plans in California, Texas, and Georgia, serves on the Pasadena Village Board of Directors. He provided an overview of Medicare’s components, discussing hospitalization, medical insurance, and prescription drug plans during a lively session.

“He made us aware of the pros and cons of public and private insurance plans that affect us all, attempting to take the mystery out of Medicare, and in this he was largely successful,” reported Margarite Olmos, a participant in the event, on Pasadena Village’s blog. Holliday distributed a 2025 Clarity Guide created by the United Healthcare Medicare Advantage Plan to help organize the options.

The series takes place at the newly opened Washington Park Community Center, which Olmos described as an inviting “light-filled space” which is ideal for this type of meeting and conveniently located. Each session runs from 2 to 3:30 p.m., with complimentary coffee and tea offered from 2 to 2:30 p.m. before the main presentation and discussion.

Pasadena Village announced the partnership on their Facebook page, encouraging community members to participate in the upcoming sessions. Through these weekly gatherings, the organization aims to provide valuable information and foster community engagement.

Washington Park is at 700 E. Washington Blvd. in Pasadena.
